"Last night was one of the most incredible experiences of my life!
We waited until full dark to paddle out on Bellingham bay during a moonless night in search of bioluminescence.
At first I didn't notice much. The white splash of our paddles might have been a little brighter than usual but as we made our way to deeper waters the light became intense. Soon the bow of our canoe was throwing light as if it were a lantern! The kayaks around us were lit up as well!
We stopped for a bit to splash around. Every small disturbance caused huge ripples of light. I scooped the water up and for a while my hands glowed with bazillions of tiny sparkles!
We paddled on into an even deeper and darker area and sat over a school of glowing fish! As they swam beneath us they cast streaks of light--it was like floating above a meteor shower! They started jumping all around us and with each splash there was a flash of light. As my eyes adjusted I could even see the bugs casting off sparks covering the surface of the bay; it was like floating on a blanket of twinkling & shooting stars!

We had a lovely sunset kayak. Gillian, our guide, was super helpful, knowledgeable and a great guide. She really help out a friend who was with us who had just bought a kayak. She helped her learn a few things about how to kayak. The scenery was beautiful and the sunset on the water was incredible.
